n8n vs Make vs Zapier: Which Automation Tool Should a UAE Business Pick?

Cover reading: Per task, per credit, or per run? n8n vs Make vs Zapier for UAE businesses

For most UAE businesses the choice comes down to how you are billed. Zapier charges per task, Make charges per credit (one per module action), and n8n charges per workflow execution no matter how many steps it has. If your automations are long or high-volume, n8n is usually cheapest. If your team is non-technical and wants the widest app list with the least setup, Zapier wins. Make sits between the two.

Key takeaways

  • Zapier bills per task (each successful action), Make bills per credit (each module action), and n8n bills per workflow execution with unlimited steps. The same automation can cost very different amounts on each.
  • As of October 2026, Zapier’s Professional plan starts at $19.99 a month, Make’s Core plan is $12 a month for 10,000 credits, and n8n Cloud’s Starter plan is 20 EUR a month billed annually for 2,500 executions.
  • n8n can be self-hosted on your own server under its Sustainable Use License for internal business use, which matters if you want customer data to stay in the UAE.
  • All three now offer AI agent features and MCP connections, so the choice is less about AI and more about billing, hosting and who will maintain the workflows.
  • None of them replaces the WhatsApp Business Platform. They connect to it.
Three key takeaways from the Virtuloom guide: n8n vs Make vs Zapier: Which Automation Tool Should a UAE Business Pick?
Key takeaways from this guide.

What do Zapier, Make and n8n actually do?

All three move data between the apps you already use and trigger actions without a developer writing code for every step. A new lead arrives from a Meta form, the tool creates a contact in your CRM, sends a WhatsApp template message, and posts a note to your team chat. The same idea covers invoices, bookings, reports and content.

The difference is in how they are built and billed. Zapier is a hosted service with the largest app library, claiming more than 9,000 apps. Make is a hosted visual builder where you draw a scenario of modules on a canvas. n8n is an open-source tool you can run on n8n’s cloud or on your own server, with a visual builder and the option to drop into code when you need it.

How is each one priced?

This is where most businesses pick wrong, because the three tools count usage differently. The figures below are from each vendor’s pricing page as of October 2026 and can change at any time.

Tool Billing unit Entry paid plan What you get Where data is hosted
Zapier Task: counted each time a Zap successfully completes an action. Triggers, filters and failed actions are not counted. Professional from $19.99 a month (Free plan: 100 tasks, two-step Zaps only) Multi-step Zaps, unlimited Zaps, 2-minute polling, premium apps Hosted by Zapier; no region choice shown on the pricing page
Make Credit: one per module action. Routers and error-handler modules are free; code runs cost 2 credits per second. Core at $12 a month for 10,000 credits (Free plan: 1,000 credits, 2 active scenarios) Unlimited active scenarios, 1-minute minimum interval, 40-minute max run time AWS in the EU or North America
n8n Cloud Workflow execution: one full run of a workflow, unlimited steps Starter at 20 EUR a month billed annually for 2,500 executions; Pro at 50 EUR for 10,000 Unlimited workflows and users, every integration, AI agent and MCP nodes EU, Frankfurt. Self-hosted: wherever you put it

n8n’s Business tier is 667 EUR a month and self-hosted only, and Enterprise is quoted. Zapier’s Team plan starts at $69 a month for 25 users with SAML SSO. Make’s Pro and Teams plans are $21 and $38 a month at the 10,000-credit level. All three save money on annual billing.

Why does the billing unit change the price so much?

Because a real automation has several steps, and only one of the three tools ignores the step count. Here is an illustrative example, not a quote, for a Dubai real estate office that receives 3,000 portal and ad leads a month. Each lead runs a flow of six steps: trigger, format the phone number, create the CRM contact, send a WhatsApp template, add a row to a sheet, and notify the agent.

  • Zapier counts the successful actions, so roughly four tasks per lead once the trigger and formatter are excluded. About 12,000 tasks a month, which puts you well above the entry tier.
  • Make counts every module, so about six credits per lead. About 18,000 credits a month, above the 10,000-credit Core level.
  • n8n counts one execution per lead. 3,000 executions, which fits the 20 EUR Starter plan with room to spare.

Flip the example to twenty tiny two-step automations that each run a few times a day and Zapier’s Free or Professional plan is the cheapest and simplest. Count your steps and your volume before you count your money.

Which one is easiest for a non-technical team?

Zapier, then Make, then n8n. Zapier’s editor is a vertical list of steps and its app library is the largest, so a marketing manager can build a lead flow in an afternoon. Make’s canvas is more powerful and more visual, but branching scenarios get complicated fast. n8n’s editor is similar to Make’s, and it rewards someone comfortable with data structures and the occasional line of code. Whichever you pick, the tool itself rarely fails; the maintenance does, usually when the one person who built the flows leaves.

Which one is best for AI agents and MCP?

All three have moved into AI. Zapier Agents are free for 400 activities a month, with a Pro tier at $400 a year, and Zapier MCP lets an AI assistant call your Zaps, with each tool call costing two tasks. Make offers AI Agents in beta, an MCP Server and an AI assistant called Maia that builds scenarios from a conversation. n8n includes an AI Agent node, an MCP Server Trigger and MCP Client, instance-level MCP and human approval for tool calls, and its AI assistant is included on Cloud plans.

If you want an assistant such as Claude to read and act through your automations, all three can expose workflows as MCP tools. If you want to build the agent itself, with memory, branching and approval steps, n8n gives you the most control. Our post on AI agents vs chatbots vs RPA explains where an automation tool stops and an agent starts.

What should a UAE business check before choosing?

Three things specific to this market.

Where your customer data goes

The UAE’s Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection applies to processing inside or outside the country and is built on consent. n8n Cloud stores data in Frankfurt, Make runs on AWS in the EU or North America, and Zapier’s pricing page shows no region choice. If your policy or your clients require data to stay in the UAE, self-hosting n8n on a UAE cloud region is the only one of the three that gives you that, and it is allowed under n8n’s licence for your own internal business use.

WhatsApp

Your customers message on WhatsApp, and none of these tools is a WhatsApp provider. They send and receive through the WhatsApp Business Platform, which has its own per-conversation pricing. Read our guide to WhatsApp Business API pricing in the UAE before you plan volumes.

Who maintains it

Apps change their APIs, templates expire, and a flow that silently fails for two weeks can lose real leads. Decide at the start who owns monitoring. Zapier and Make show failed runs in the interface; n8n Cloud keeps execution logs for 7 days on Starter and 30 on Pro.

Our recommendation by situation

Situation Pick Why
Small team, few simple flows, no developer Zapier Fastest setup, largest app list, Free plan to start
Visual, branching flows with moderate volume Make Canvas builder, cheap entry price, EU hosting
High volume, long workflows, AI agents, or data must stay in the UAE n8n Per-execution billing, self-hosting, deepest AI and MCP features
Process is unusual and the tool keeps fighting you Custom software At some point a small custom app is cheaper than a tangle of scenarios

How Virtuloom helps

We build and maintain automations on all three tools as part of our AI automation service in Dubai, can host n8n on a UAE cloud region when data has to stay in the country, and move the work into custom software when a tool stops fitting the process. For agents that reply to customers and take actions, see AI agent development.

Frequently asked questions

Is n8n free to use for a business?

Self-hosted n8n is free under its Sustainable Use License for your own internal business purposes, and you pay only for your server. You may not provide it to others commercially. Files marked .ee need an Enterprise licence. n8n Cloud, where n8n hosts it for you, starts at 20 EUR a month billed annually as of October 2026.

Which tool is cheapest in the UAE?

It depends on the shape of your automations. Per execution, n8n is cheapest for long, high-volume flows. Per task, Zapier is cheapest for a handful of short flows. Make is cheap at low volume but counts every module. Model one month of your real flows on each pricing page before deciding.

Can these tools send WhatsApp messages?

Yes, through the WhatsApp Business Platform or a business solution provider, not on their own. You need an approved WhatsApp Business account, approved message templates, and you pay Meta’s per-conversation rates on top of the automation tool’s plan.

Do I need a developer for n8n?

Not for simple flows, but n8n suits someone comfortable with data fields and the occasional expression. For self-hosting you also need someone to run updates, backups and security on the server, which is why many businesses use n8n Cloud or have an agency host it.

Can Claude or ChatGPT use my automations?

Yes. Zapier MCP, Make’s MCP Server and n8n’s MCP Server Trigger each expose workflows as tools an AI assistant can call, with approval steps if you want them. Each Zapier MCP call uses two tasks. This is how an assistant can create a CRM record or send a WhatsApp message on your behalf.
